Ventilator Christmas

A feeling I have
sweeps over me.
And I share it with the man of the house,
who no longer understands.
I try again
from a different angle
trying to chip in the images, maybe
maybe a flick a shard will drop in his eye
and he won't try to scrape it out.
Maybe a tiny reflection will feel like a plank
and he will turn to me
turn and recognize me
and say hey
could you scrape that goddam plank out of my eye?
Maybe he will turn down the remote and add
add
something
like and why your at it, could you wipe away that shit coming out of your eye?
It's embarrassing.
And my kids will be here any minute.
My sons a doctor you'd like him.
He looks just like you.
