"Thank you," these words can only barely
begin to express what this great gift has meant to me. I feel
that this has been a learning experience of incalculable value.
I am humbled by the greatness of heart and spirit that has led
the donors to make this gift. I am inspired by the selfless generosity
that they have shown. I am reminded that as human beings, we
have a duty to teach one another as much as we can about the world
and ourselves.
As students, we struggle to learn a tremendous volume
of information about the human body. As teachers, those who donated
their bodies have given us knowledge that cannot be found in any
textbook. They have given us a window into an exciting and astounding
world, a window that will help us to become the best physicians
that we possibly can. The generosity of your loved ones has touched
my life, and through the work of my fellow students and myself,
will touch the lives of many people who are sick or injured.
In helping to train the physicians of tomorrow, they are investing
in the well-being of society. By giving of themselves, to people they will never know, your loved ones have demonstrated what it is to be altruistic, to help others with no thought of recompense. As a physician, I will aspire to act as unselfishly as they have and to use the knowledge that they have given my classmates and I to help heal as many people as possible. There is no way to quantify what your loved ones have given, and the words, "Thank you," seem inadequate. But let me say this, my classmates and I will never forget what they have shown us, and we will do our best to demonstrate and pass on the knowledge and values that they have so generously given to us. |
