How bad were the on call hours?
home call, only a problem if
you're on EDr. Vitale's weekend at St. Mary's or it there's a transplant
What were your weekday hours?
St Mary's: see pts (3-5) write
notes, rounds, breakfast, OR, go to lecture then home
Transplant: variable, get there around 5, see 5-10 pts, write notes,
round at 7, OR, go back to rounds or clinic, lecture, finish rounds,
escape by 7 if lucky or stay to make the list if you're on call
What were your weekend hours?
variable, depends on if there are

What should we know about the attendings and residents?
most of
them are OK, watch out for one at St. Mary's--the residents will tell you
who, they all have their quirks that you'll learn quickly
Did you learn any new procedures or skills?
very little, mainly
retracting, some suturing at SLU, I think I may have tied one knot
What books were useful for the shelf exam?
medicine blueprints
recall helps for pimping but not on the test
How was your shelf exam?
5/10-tough but fair
Did you have enough time to study for it?
not really, on
transplant all I wanted to do when I got home was go to sleep
What pearls of wisdom should an incoming student ABSOLUTELY know?
it's only 8 wks, you'll survive
