How was the driving and parking?
I rollerbladed to CGH. No
problems
there.
How bad were the on call hours?
CHG: Never got called.
Blue: be prepared to scut about all nite long.
What were your weekday hours?
CGH: Pre-round at ungodly hour of
5:00am
or earlier. Attend every fourth surg. IF you choose, Dr. Fiore
(pediatric CTS) loves
to have students scrub with him. Very mellow...
Blue: Pre-round at 6:00 (usually later due to a certain B Bruno.... wait
that's too obvious,
because of a certain Bill B. Then scrub surgeries until the sunsets.
Again, leave the
fishnets in the locker (as well as the leopard G-string).
What were your weekend hours?
Brutal, because Tara left town
everyweekend,
giving us all of her patients.
What should we know about the attendings and residents?
Stay out
of their way. Only approach with questions at the most opportune times
(which generally
is never). Direct questions to residents who seem to have their shit
together.
Did you learn any new procedures or skills?
Yes, suturing (skin
and
bowel and anal epidermis, I'm serious). Attending level knowledge of
retracting. Bovie

surgical recall,
pre-test,
and if you like, surgical secrets. but recall and pretest are essential

Did you have enough time to study for it?
In between all the
retracting,
sleeping, and cocktail functions, absolutely yes. Plenty of time. No
matter how much
time you Do, in fact, have, it won't be enough to feel good coming out of
this exam.
What pearls of wisdom should an incoming student ABSOLUTELY know?
(-) fishnets, (-) G-strings, always, always, always check the drains....
