Any_tips_on_preparing_for_Day_1?

Don't get too frustrated because you don't know what is going on, you'll figure it out as the week goes on.

How_was_the_driving_and_parking?

If you get to the VA before 6:00am security will let you in the physicians lot by pushing the button at the gate and saying that you are a medical student. Otherwise get ready to hike a couple of block and through a scary alley. X-plant was SLU parking.

How_bad_were_the_on_call_hours?

Q4, usually got out of VA @8 and x-plant @10. Just remember with transplant there is also Harvest call.

What_were_your_weekday_hours?

VA: pre-round @5/5:30, round until 8, surgery or fill out orders, write notes and class in the afternoon. X-plant: pre-round @4:30/5, rounds at 7 until 1/2, surgery, class, more surgeries, afternoon rounds with attendings.

What_were_your_weekend_hours?

5am to 6/7pm

What_should_we_know_about_the_attendings_and_residents?

Dr. Garvin is a blast, Residents were very nice and knowledgeable but busy too.

Did_you_learn_any_new_procedures_or_skills?

YES, a ton. you get to do a lot in x-plant

What_books_were_useful_for_the_shelf_exam?

NMS-good but overkill Recall-concise excellent review of main ideas

How_was_your_shelf_exam?

10/10-worst headache of my life

Did_you_have_enough_time_to_study_for_it?

NO!!!! Study any chance you get.

What_pearls_of_wisdom_should_an_incoming_student_ABSOLUTELY_know?

Have lots of fun!!! Use OR time to learn from residents or attendings.

How_would_you_rate_the_stress_level?

nonstop stress
