No need to prepare on day 1 or any day really
How was the driving and parking?
Good parking; 20 min drive
How bad were the on call hours?
No call
What were your weekday hours?
Arrive at 7:45 see patients, write notes, round at 8:30. Done by 9:30. Some afternoon stuff, but never later than 4. Occassionally off at 10.
What were your weekend hours?
Nothing ever happens at a VA on weekends
What should we know about the attendings and residents?
My attending taught me nothing and in fact barely seemed to acknowledge my presence.
Did you learn any new procedures or skills?
Some exposure to MSE, but since we only observed clinic in the afternoon and did not participate, the learning was limited.
What books were useful for the shelf exam?
Blueprints is thin and some extra stuff maybe useful esp. for drugs.
How was your shelf exam?

What pearls of wisdom should an incoming student ABSOLUTELY know?
If you don't want to do psych, go to JB. Otherwise hope you go elsewhere.

It is a joke that this is a full 6 week rotation. This could be covered in about 1 week of afternoon classes.
