no, I believe JB has the best clinical exposure

Any tips on preparing for Day 1?

Bring your steth. and otoscope. It would have been helpful to have read about how a mental status exam is performed and written up before attending the first day, but not necessary.

How was the driving and parking?

Plenty o' parking

How bad were the on call hours?

no on-call

What were your weekday hours?

Arrive at 8:00. Meet with Dr. ***. Round on patients. Make orders or D/C summaries. Write notes. Eat at "excellent" JB diner. Round again on patients and read.

What were your weekend hours?

None

What should we know about the attendings and residents?

Huge variation in attendings evaluations and demeanor. Some attendings want students to just observe and do and touch nothing. Other attendings require that their students do interviews, write notes, and follow patients.

Did you learn any new procedures or skills?

ECT, Mental status exam

What books were useful for the shelf exam?

NMS is best. Many people use Blue Prints for Bare bone facts.

What pearls of wisdom should an incoming student ABSOLUTELY know?

Dr. Parks is awesome. Practice covering all of the areas on the mental status exam. Always ask the nursing staff about how your patients did the night before.

How would you rate the stress level?

tolerable

Are you now more or less interested in this specialty as a career?
