Which site did you attend?

Saint Mary's (4wks), St. John's (2wks)

Do you wish you did it at another site?

It would have been better to spend less time at St. Mary's.

Any tips on preparing for Day 1?

Get a good night's sleep if you start on labor and delivery.

How was the driving and parking?

Parking was excellent at both sites. St. John's is off of I-270 (long drive in rush hour).

How bad were the on call hours?

Very long but plenty to do. You basically do 4-6 nights in a row (night float system).

What were your weekday hours?

Varies day by day at St. Mary's Catch babies at St. John's

What were your weekend hours?

None on Gyn. You work through weekends at St. John's

What should we know about the attendings and residents?

Most attendings are great. The residents at St. Mary's are overworked, tired, grouchy, and not much fun to be around.

Did you learn any new procedures or skills?

Yes

What books were useful for the shelf exam?

Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology or NMS

How was your shelf exam?

5/10-tough but fair

Did you have enough time to study for it?

Yes

What pearls of wisdom should an incoming student ABSOLUTELY know?

Be prepared to talk about every little detail on your patient when Dr. B (course director) is the attending for the week.

How would you rate the stress level?

tolerable

Are you now more or less interested in this specialty as a career?

Less

Any other comments?

Ob/gyn doctors have a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad lifestyle.
