for L&D, especially at St.
John's, you really need to be aggressive in talking to the attendings or
they never let you do much (I got very good at delivering placentas but
not much practice at delivering babies), and be nice to the nurses because
they know way more than you do about L&D and they can be really helpful if
they like you
How was the driving and parking?
parking garage is free at St.
Johns, have to pay to park at St. Marys unless you get there before 7AM
How bad were the on call hours?
for L&D we did fourteen days
straight of 12 hour days which was pretty tiresome, but then no call
during surgery and outpatient clinic
What were your weekday hours?
typically done early afternoon
during surgery at St. Johns, 7-7 days for L&D, and clinic 9-4
What were your weekend hours?
none for clinic, one day per
weekend for surgery, whole weekend for L&D
What should we know about the attendings and residents?
residents at St. Johns seem to be nicer than at St. Marys, but you get to
do more at St. Marys
