SLU, general (general and rehab @ Bethesda)

Do you wish you did it at another site?

Some days yes, some no

Any tips on preparing for Day 1?

Nothing unexpected with this rotation.

How was the driving and parking?

It's at SLU

How bad were the on call hours?

In house until 9:00pm. I was called once the entire month.

What were your weekday hours?

Usually rounded about 7:30 until Noon with Dr. Burch. Dr. Hogan blazed through rounds - done around 10:00. You round on patients at SLU and Bethesda.

What were your weekend hours?

Rounded about 8:00, and was done anywhere from Noon-thirty to 3:30.

What should we know about the attendings and residents?

Dr. Burch: very long winded. Be prepared to wait. Dr. Hogan: Just the facts, and get out. Residents:Dr. Shoen - very efficient, didn't waste any time, and excellent w/ patients. Dr. Guo - also very efficient.

Did you learn any new procedures or skills?

I saw 1 (one) Lumbar puncture for the month. Otherwise you look at alot of CTs and MRIs.

What books were useful for the shelf exam?

I only used Neuro Recall

Lots of wasted time, at Bethesda you get practice dictating H&Ps and D/C sums.
