SLUH, JCVAH, Acute care/Geriatrics

Do you wish you did it at another site?

no

Any tips on preparing for Day 1?

Mostly orientation, easy, pick up 1-2 patients

How was the driving and parking?

bad at all locations. Parking is free but far away

How bad were the on call hours?

At SLU it was until 9:00, VA was overnight and ambulatory has none

What were your weekday hours?

Resident Rounds then preceptor rounds then attending rounds then noon conference and then do the work or chief resident rounds

What were your weekend hours?

One day per weekend unless you have Saturday call (both days)

What should we know about the attendings and residents?

SLU residents and attendings do a good job of teaching. It is very dependent on the individuals

Did you learn any new procedures or skills?

ABGs, rectals

What books were useful for the shelf exam?

Blueprints was good, NMS is too much but good for reference and reading about your patients, Pre-test

How was your shelf exam?

9/10

Did you have enough time to study for it?

No, there was way too much info. The test had a lot of stuff that I never saw or heard of before

What pearls of wisdom should an incoming student ABSOLUTELY know?

Start reading ASAP and always read about your patients before rounds the next day.

How would you rate the stress level?

tolerable

Are you now more or less interested in this specialty as a career?
