Deaconess, SLU South Grand Clinic, JCVA

no

Any tips on preparing for Day 1?

get ready to work and be prepared to do H&Ps

How was the driving and parking?

JCVA was horrible. Not close to the hospital

How bad were the on call hours?

deaconess was awesome. Nice residents.

What were your weekday hours?

Inpatient- call q4, on not-call days, done by 3-4pm clinic- 8-5

What were your weekend hours?

off except when on call

What should we know about the attendings and residents?

Deaconess attendings are all nice except Dr. Chambers. He explains everything well, but that is after he makes you look like a dumb ass.

Did you learn any new procedures or skills?

ABG,pelvic exams, central line.

What books were useful for the shelf exam?

NMS for diagnostic tests and treatment options, blueprints for a good differential. For H and P, highly recommend reading up on Harrisons.

How was your shelf exam?

5/10-tough but fair

Did you have enough time to study for it?

yes

What pearls of wisdom should an incoming student ABSOLUTELY know?

differential diagnosis, what physical findings mean and reason for ordering tests.

How would you rate the stress level?

tolerable

Are you now more or less interested in this specialty as a career?
