day 1 at a naval hospital can
be a pain sometimes because you have to run around all over the place and
have people sign some stupid form for check-in for you, just deal with it
and get over it
How was the driving and parking?
you have to have a military ID,
proof of insurance, and a copy of your orders to drive on base
How bad were the on call hours?
I didn't have to take call!!!!
What were your weekday hours?
basically similar to any
ambulatory clinic, see the patient, present to the attending, and then go
with the attending to see the patient
What were your weekend hours?
none
What should we know about the attendings and residents?
the
residents all seemed very happy to be there, and the attendings were very
interested in teaching
Did you learn any new procedures or skills?
some basics of
osteopathic medicine
What books were useful for the shelf exam?
I didn't take one
here but for the Medicine shelf exam I liked Medicine Recall (easy reading
and not horribly boring)
How was your shelf exam?
5/10-tough but fair

yes
What pearls of wisdom should an incoming student ABSOLUTELY know?
itching after a shower--polycythemia vera; neurological changes,
fever, anemia thrombocytopeni--TTP

There are only FP residencies here, but
supposedly this is the place to go for FP in the navy
