yes
Any tips on preparing for Day 1?
it's typical of an in-patient rotation, be there early and see the patients, have your notes written before rounds
How was the driving and parking?
typical slu parking
How bad were the on call hours?
not bad, but kind of a waste of time since you really didn't do much of anything
What were your weekday hours?
come in early morning (5:30-6:30) see the patients, write the notes, go to rounds, then sit around for four hours doing nothing until class
What were your weekend hours?
one day a weekend, usually out by ten or eleven
What should we know about the attendings and residents?
the residents(the majority of them that I came across) really have some poor english, and most of the attendings don't teach a whole lot either
Did you learn any new procedures or skills?
not really other than being able to do the neuro exam in my sleep
What books were useful for the shelf exam?
just use the assigned text, it's not really that good but most of the test comes from there
How was your shelf exam?
4/10
Did you have enough time to study for it?
yes
What pearls of wisdom should an incoming student ABSOLUTELY know?
be prepared to be bored stiff, and realize that the hours required really just suck when you consider that it's a non-acute rehab service
How would you rate the stress level?
tolerable
Are you now more or less interested in this specialty as a career?
Less
Any other comments?
try to get cardinal glennon, the VA, or the stroke team--anywhere is better than Bethesda!
