Just be ready to jump right in
and start seeing patients and doing procedures. A medicine book/the family
med. text might be good references to have handy for differential
diagnosis.
How was the driving and parking?
Close by school but not the
safest place to park your car. I never had any problems though.
How bad were the on call hours?
No call. I rounded one morning
at 7am with the doc but that's all.
What were your weekday hours?
Monday--lecture all day
Tues--11am-2pm--new OB pts.
Wed.-Fri--8:30/9am-4/5pm
What were your weekend hours?
None.
What should we know about the attendings and residents?
Don't be
afraid to answer a question even if you're not sure you know the correct
answer. Effort counts for a lot.
Did you learn any new procedures or skills?
Yes, tons...pelvic
exam, endometrial biopsy, pap smear, prenatal exam, peds exam, diabetic
exam and labs, wart removal, toe nail removal...

What pearls of wisdom should an incoming student ABSOLUTELY know?
He didn't expect me to know much at first but be prepared to do a
lot of looking stuff up every night and talking about it the next day. I
suggest American Family Physician for a lot of articles on general stuff.
You can get to abstracts on the web via the American Academy of Family
Physicians site, then go to publications.
