Nope

Any tips on preparing for Day 1?

Just be ready to see lots of patients. I didn't get too many questions right away.

How was the driving and parking?

It is five minutes from the airport, but the traffic isn't bad at all before 7:30.

How bad were the on call hours?

Very nice.(none)

What were your weekday hours?

Monday: class all day at slu - the worst part of the rotation Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and 2 Saturdays: at the office seeing patients - days began at 7:30 and ended between 1:30 and 3:30. Wednesdays: Work on your golf swing.

What were your weekend hours?

Every other saturday 7:00 - Noon

What should we know about the attendings and residents?

Dr. Poetz went to Kirksville, has practiced 35+ years, sees many more patients than some other docs, and is a genuinely good man. He provided many opportunities to see and do various procedures.

Did you learn any new procedures or skills?

Cortisone injection, minor derm-ectomies, lots of DREs and Paps,

What books were useful for the shelf exam?


How was your shelf exam?

5/10-tough but fair

Did you have enough time to study for it?

yes, and to do everything else except go on a long trip

What pearls of wisdom should an incoming student ABSOLUTELY know?

I guess its good to know the JNC-6 rec's on HTN, and some of the drugs used for HTN, Hyperlipidemia, and DM type 2 since about two thirds of his patients have all of these

How would you rate the stress level?

tolerable

Are you now more or less interested in this specialty as a career?
