This is the least stressful
first day of any rotation
(besides surgery). Don't sweat it.
How was the driving and parking?
No problem.
How bad were the on call hours?
Depends on where you are and how
busy. Some
nights you'll be up most of the night whereas others you'll get more rest
than you do at home.
What were your weekday hours?
See the syllabus--it follows it
exactly.
What were your weekend hours?
Saturday or Sunday off, otherwise,
finished around
noon if you're not on call.
What should we know about the attendings and residents?
Overall
very nice, but be
prepared to know everything about your patient (especailly medicines).
Did you learn any new procedures or skills?
Arterial blood
draws.
What books were useful for the shelf exam?
Blueprints, Problem
Solving in Clinical
Medicine (Cutler), Common Medical Diagnoses: An Algorithmic Approach
(Healey, Jacobson),
Pre-test, "The Orange" EKG book (forgot title and author)
How was your shelf exam?
6/10
Did you have enough time to study for it?
So-so, too much to
learn, so focus on the
material in blueprints and use supplements as necessary. Everything TESTED
is in blueprints
(everything you ever wanted to know and more is in NMS).
What pearls of wisdom should an incoming student ABSOLUTELY know?
How would you rate the stress level?
tolerable
